Moose Wilson Road
Early April, 2024
Left the truck at the second pullout before the gate. I had the wrong lens on the camera, 500mm. This is not relevant to what happened next, but I want it on record.
Something had moved through the willows on the west side of the road. The kind of disturbance that doesn’t read as elk. Too deliberate. The branches weren’t broken — they were moved, which is a different thing.
The shape behind the willows was large. I would say seven feet. I would say broad. I would say it was aware of me before I was aware of it, which is an uncomfortable thing to write down.
I stood there for about ten minutes. A raven made a lot of noise about something I couldn’t see. I have come to believe the raven knew exactly what was going on and was enjoying itself.
I have a photo. My wife has seen the photo. She said, and I am quoting directly: “That could be anything.” She is not wrong. It could be anything. It was not anything.
No official log entry. Nothing to report. I’ll be back out when the mud firms up and I have the right lens.
