I saw a giant monster on my morning walk today.
At least that’s what I thought it was.
The morning started like most mornings. The sky was painted with those soft pink clouds that make you stop and appreciate being awake before the rest of the world. I was walking past a field near my neighborhood when I looked toward the tree line.
One tree immediately stood out.
It was brighter green than the others around it, and from a distance it looked… wrong.
I stopped walking and stared at it.
The hanging branches looked like a head and shoulders. The darker shadows underneath looked like eyes. The longer I looked, the more my brain transformed the tree into some enormous creature crouched at the edge of the field.
You know how that happens? Your brain starts connecting dots that probably aren’t there.
Except this one was really convincing.
I stood there for a good minute thinking, “That is either a tree or the world’s worst-hidden monster.”
Then I noticed a cat.
There was a little orange cat wandering around in the weeds directly in front of this supposed monster. If there really had been a giant creature hiding in the trees, this cat was about to become breakfast.
The cat didn’t seem concerned.
Not even a little.
It wandered around, sniffed a few things, sat down, and started cleaning itself.
Meanwhile, I’m standing there on the sidewalk wondering if I’ve discovered a new species.
The cat looked like it had already evaluated the situation and concluded that whatever was happening wasn’t important enough to interrupt its morning.
Honestly, that was probably the moment I realized it was just a tree.
A cat’s lack of concern is surprisingly reassuring.
Still, I took a picture.
Because if there’s even a one percent chance you’re looking at a giant tree monster, you should probably document it.
I kept walking, but I glanced back a few times.
The monster never moved.
The cat never cared.
And the tree remained a tree.
At least as far as I know.
Tomorrow morning I’ll probably walk by again. If the tree is gone and the cat is nowhere to be found, I’ll have some new questions.
